Tom Mueller – President and Founding Director
Tom Mueller is retired from his position as the Director of NationalAccounts and McGill Sales for EGS Electrical Group, a division of Emerson Electric. Since the creation of The Friends of Nathan (FONF) in 2007 , the organization has grown from assisting one child with Cerebral Palsy to currently helping over 30 families with special needs.
Tom spends his time overseeing the FONF, spending time with his wife, three children and six grandchildren, reading, building model sailboats and golfing. Tom has continuously been involved in improving the lives of children. He has been a foster parent while raising three children of his own, a soccer coach (amateur, high school and collegiate levels) and has been a mentor and friend to his many nieces and nephews.
Dennis Golemba – Vice President and Golf Outing Chair
Dennis is currently a retired owner of D&J Machining Inc., a small design and manufacturing firm. He thoroughly enjoys helping The Friends of Nathan Foundation, and is excited to see who else the organization can help.
Steve Smith – Treasurer
Steve Smith was one of the original founders of the Friends of Nathan Foundation and currently serves as the treasurer. He was a long time partner at Ernst & Young and a founder of Accretive Health, a publicly traded health care company. Steve also serves on the board of directors for the Friendship Senior Options of Schaumburg and serves as the co-chair of Vita Heat Medical, L.L.C.
Janet Smith – Secretary and Gala Chair
Janet Smith is a retired RN currently serving as the secretary of The Friends of Nathan Foundation. She also volunteers in the child education program at the Chicago Botanic Garden, and once a week, she donates her time as a nurse for a clinic in Woodstock. Janet also serves on the Board of Directors for Hearthstone Village.
Pam Mueller – Board Member
Pam Mueller is retired, having worked in the HealthCare Field for over 20 years. She is one of the original founders of The Friends of Nathan Foundation. She comes from a very large family and has spent most of her life being surrounded by and mentoring children. She and her husband have been foster parents while raising their three children and has been an integral part of many of her nieces and nephews lives. ln her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, three children and six grandchildren, reading and being actively involved in the FONF fundraising activities.
Kathryn Golemba – Board Member
Kathy is an avid volunteer who donates her time at Sweet Repeat Resale Shop, participates in the food pantry and card writing ministry at her church. She also is involved with a volunteer group that makes quilts for children at her retirement village and loves spending time with her sons and their families.
Terry Bandu – Board Member - is currently employed with American General Life
Company as a Senior Consultant Underwriter. Through the years she has enjoyed working with children as a Volleyball Coach, Girl Scout leader, Cheerleading coach and Sunday School Teacher. She is blessed with four children and a close family. She is rewarded by helping the children of FONF and giving them the chance to obtain their dreams and see the smiles on their faces.
Howard Hamilton – Board Member
Howard is retired from his position as Executive Director of Fertility Centers of Illinois. He has decades of experience as a senior healthcare executive, including work with Children's Healthcare programs at various university teaching hospitals. In retirement, he is spending more time with FONF and other service-oriented community activities. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Bethesda Home, A senior care facility in Northwest Chicago.
Larry Domalick – Board Member
Larry is employed as a Senior Premium Auditor for Travelers Companies. He became involved with The Friends of Nathan Foundation through his son's participation. Having been touched personally by family illness he is delighted for the opportunity the Foundation gives him to help others. Larry holds a BS degree in Accounting.
Wendy Mueller – Board Member and Motorcycle Chair
Wendy is currently employed at Conduent Payment lntegrity Solutions and has over 17 years of experience in the lnsurance lndustry .She has been actively involved with The Friends of Nathan Foundation as a volunteer since its inception in 2007. Wendy comes from a very large family, has been a foster sister to several children and a wonderful mentor for her many nieces and nephews. Wendy is the Chairperson for FONF's Annual Motorcylce Run held annually in July and is the driving force behind FONF's yearly Christmas party for the children and families we help. She enjoys being involved with her niece, nephews and cousins, her dog Murphy, and travelling whenever she can.
Kerry Nedic – Board Member
Kerry is the Vice President of Marketing at Appleton Group, a business unit of Emerson. She was fortunate to work with Tom and become introduced to The Friends of Nathan Foundation, and is thrilled to have the opportunity to provide help to families and children in need. Kerry is a Fightin' Texas Aggie and holds an MBA from Kellogg School of Management. She is a proud mother of two, including a child with ASD.
Don Larsen – Board Member
Don has 40 years experience with varied roles in the automotive industry. He works for American Guardian Warranty Services, Inc. as Director of Asset Management and Loss Control. He analyzes dealer/client loss experience in order to increase their profitability and implement quality assurance processes and measures. Don was a lead volunteer with the American Cancer Society for 7 years in the capacity of Event Chair of the Relay For Life of Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates. In 2011 after 4 years success in improved fundraising he was recognized with the “Distinguished Service Award for Income Development” He received the “Top Event Fundraiser Recognition” award (team and individual) in 2012-2014. For 3 years Don has served as presenter and facilitator for the Life Academy.
Wally and his wife Linda have generously supported FONF since it was founded – Attending all of our galas! They join our board with a wealth of experience in supporting children through non- profit organizations like St. Jude’s and Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals and Ronald McDonald House. Wally was born and raised in Northwest Chicago. He received both B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from DePaul. He retired as V.P. and C.F.O. of Material Service corporation after 40 years of service. He is now doing financial consulting and enjoys travelling and spending time with family and friends.
Linda and her husband Wally have generously supported FONF since it was founded – Attending all of our galas! Linda also hails from the Northwest side of Chicago where she attended Notre Dame High School for Girls. She co-founded Kay-Lyn Gold in 1980. She has been involved with Girl Scouts of America, High school Parent Club and parish religious educational programs. She has been administrative assistant to social workers at Hinsdale South High School. She joins Wally in retirement travel adventures and fun times with family and friends.
Tom and Laurie Hay – Emeritus Board Members
Tom and Laurie served on the FONF board for many years with great distinction. They have retired from their successful electrical contracting business and spend much of their time in Naples Florida. In 2015 the board recognized their loyal and dedicated service by making Tom and Laurie our first Emeritus Board Members. They remain active and connected with FONF and with their Community of Faith Lutheran Church when they are back in Chicago. They have made generous contributions of their time and resources to FONF which has had substantial positive impact on the children and families we serve.
Melyni Serpa – Emeritus Board Members
Melyni Serpa is a results-driven senior executive with strong operations, innovation, executive development, business transformation and growth leadership skills. She is expert in creating vision, leading change, and delivering strong operating results. Her experience includes 30+ years in the media and advertising industry, most recently as CEO of Gannett Healthcare Group, a healthcare media and education company. Her company, Melyni Serpa Leadership Consulting, offers executive coaching and leadership consulting in the advertising and media industries. She currently serves as Vice President of Client Services for G/O Digital, a TEGNA Digital Company.
Melyni holds a BBA in Management and an MBA in Organizational Psychology and Development. She lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with her husband, Luis, and daughter, Olivia.
